Final Exam/Assessment Schedule
& Graduation Practices
|
No early departure policy applies.
|
|
Final exams/assessments start on Tuesday, May 23. Please note when your exams are scheduled for and carefully prepare for them so that you can do well in each of your classes. The first day begins at 9:00 AM to provide you more time to prepare. If your transportation requires you to arrive at the school at 8:00 AM, then please go to the Commons.
Students are required to attend even if you do not have an exam/ assessment for that time slot. However, if you have a study hall (or band) during the first exam slot of the day, then you do not need to arrive until devotions. For students with band or a study hall for the first or last exam slot of the day (except Thursday), parents should contact us at AAattendance@andrews.edu or 269-471-3138 to excuse band/study hall. Contact Mrs. Meekma in the front office if you have any questions. Be sure to sign in at the front office if you arrive late or leave early.
If you have a break in between two finals (for example, on Wednesday you have a 10:15 AM class final and no 11:10 AM class final [such as a study hall or CSA], then a 2:25 PM class final), then you must go to study hall. You may not leave campus and walk over to Apple Valley or anywhere else. Everyone should attend Mizpah/Communion/Checkout on Thursday.
Please remember that students must stay in the classroom for the entire exam class period. You may not go "get books," "get a drink," etc. when you are done with your exam. Before the exam begins, please get books you may need to study from, get a drink, use the restroom, etc. so that you can stay in the classroom the entire time. We want the entire school to be quiet during exams so that they can be done as effectively as possible without distractions. Thank you!

Service Projects
Andrews Academy encourages our students to get involved in various service projects. Numerous students get involved in helping in the area churches. Last Sabbath, Mr. Atkins’ co-leader for beginners (Cradle Roll) Sabbath School at PMC was absent. AA student volunteers and Mr. Atkins led the program, and the students taught the small lesson study for the children. As part of his biology class, students are to participate in a couple hours of service projects and some choose to help teach at PMC. Some enjoy helping so much that they’ve continued to volunteer throughout their Academy years and some right through college.
These students do a wonderful job, and the children there enjoy them so much! Mr. Atkins is sure that if both leaders are absent someday, these students will step up and run the whole program and probably do even better than the leaders. Thank you, students, for your dedicated volunteering at Sabbath School.

Chapels this Week
This week's chapels were a continuation of our AAPI month focus—with the theme being "No Longer Invisible." Each day featured a speaker who came from an AAPI background, including both current and former students as well as former staff members and community members. Monday's speaker was Steve Suinda, who is an Indonesian-American. He related his experiences growing up in America, within an Indonesian household. He reminded students that our uniqueness is our identity.
Lal "Tan" Thar (sophomore) spoke on Tuesday about how ungrateful he was as a child and how it wasn't until he was older that he realized how much his parents sacrificed for him. His ultimate message was an encouragement to other students to not let other people influence what you think about yourself.
Wednesday's chapel was class devotions, due to the 2024 senior class' officer elections.
Thursday's speaker was Dr. Arlyn Drew, a former Economics teacher here at AA. She spoke about her experience as a first-generation Korean immigrant in the Bronx and the struggles she faced when she was "too visible." She encouraged students to go and show the world that we are more than what we are grouped as. "Find you identity in God," she said, "and it won't matter what others think of you."
Today (Friday), we had a cello special music from Kate Yang and Yeawon (Kristen) Kim. Jacob Elanko, an alumnus from last year's graduating class and brother of Nathan Elanko, spoke about his experiences being disciplined in an Indian household, and how he often related his experiences with that discipline with how he viewed God. He realized as he grew older that discipline was done out of love, and similarly, Jesus stepped in on our behalf to bear the lashes for us.
We thank each of the speakers and presenters for all the reminders and sharing of experiences!

AA Uniforms Available from Lands' End
We have renewed our relationship with Lands’ End for uniform needs. More selections for uniforms are now included, such as a button-down shirt, a long-sleeved polo, and a sweater. Click on the option(s) that you would like, then choose the size (kid or adult). Please be mindful that Andrews Academy is not responsible for your orders.
We are working on other jacket options.

Please review the Sourcebook (pgs 79-81) for more information regarding uniforms. Only approved logoed uniform wear is allowed. A solid-color, long sleeved undershirt may be worn under the AA short-sleeved polo (no writing should be visible on the undershirt). If a student is wearing an AA logoed jacket, they should also have an AA logoed shirt underneath.
