Andrews Academy's

Official Newsletter

May 13, 2022

Dear AA Families,

Safely through another week, God has brought us on our way. We are closer to the end of the semester with much to accomplish before the end of the year. God is faithful in His promises. He promised He will never leave us or forsake us.

We are excited about all the upcoming activities happening at Andrews Academy. Please review this E-Sanjo for relevant information.

Tomorrow, Sabbath, May 14, 2022, we are having Beach Church. However, due to the weather forecast, we are changing our location from the beach to the Academy. We have three students who have chosen baptism tomorrow. Please pray for those who have made the decision to be baptized. All community members are welcome to come and celebrate. The program begins at 11:00 AM. Lunch will be served following the service.

The Andrews Academy SA Spring Picnic is this Monday, May 16. Please review the Sourcebook (pg 80) regarding attire. Cell phones and electronic devices are not permitted at this event. Students will also receive their yearbooks on Monday.

The senior class trip starts this Tuesday, May 17. We encourage all the participants to be on their best behavior. They are representing AA and Christ.

Class evaluations for second semester are now available and were emailed to the students.

As we approach the end of the year, it is easy for students to lose focus. Please continue to guide and encourage them to finish strong. All policies are still in place regarding cell phones, uniforms, etc. Students should refrain from impulsive behaviors that could potentially impact them negatively.

Philippians 4:8: Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Regardless of what’s happening around us, let us keep our thought pure and true.

Blessings,

Pastor Mario Ferguson
Principal

Band & Handbells Spring Concert

The Andrews Academy Resound Handbell Ensemble and Symphonic Band Spring Concert was held on Tuesday evening, May 10, 2022. The students did a wonderful presentation. I’m always impressed with the skill each student has, and the teamwork it takes to present such an impressive concert.

A big thank you to Dr. Elsy M Gallardo-Diaz, symphonic band director, and Mr. Marcelo Martins, handbell director, for all the time and effort they put into developing the skills of the students and presenting these concerts. It was a wonderful evening of great music. The concert was held at the Howard Performing Arts Center on the campus of Andrews University.

Seniors were thanked for their participation in the music groups throughout their years of being at AA.

Final Exam/Assessment Schedule

& Graduation Practice

Final exams start on Tuesday, May 24. Please note when your exams are scheduled for and carefully prepare for them so that you can do well in each of your classes. The first day begins at 9:00 AM to provide you more time to prepare. If your transportation requires you to arrive at the school at 8:00 AM, then please go to the Commons.

If you have a study hall (or band) during the first exam slot of the day, then you do not need to arrive until devotions (or your first final of the day, whichever comes first). Please see Mrs. Meekma in the office to excuse your class or if you have any questions. Be sure to sign in at the front office if you arrive after the first exam time.

If you have a break in between two finals (for example, on Wednesday you have a 10:15 AM class final and no 11:10 AM class final [such as a study hall or CSA], then you must go to study hall. You may not leave campus and walk over to Apple Valley or anywhere else.

Please remember that students must stay in the classroom for the entire exam class period. You may not go "get books," "get a drink," etc. when you are done with your exam.

Before the exam begins, please get books you may need to study from, get a drink, use the restroom, etc. so that you can stay in the classroom the entire time. We want the entire school to be quiet during exams so that they can be done as effectively as possible without distractions. Thank you!

Chapels This Week

On Wednesday, we were lucky to have Nathan Greene deliver our devotional. Mr. Atkins introduced him and shared a brief testimony. Before his (Atkins') dad passed away, his dad told him they would see each other again in the clouds. After 'The Blessed Hope' was installed at AA in 2016, it encouraged Mr. Atkins every time he passed by it. Mr. Greene started his illustrating career freelancing for various places like NASA, a nature magazine, and other places. He soon gained popularity in the Adventist community and was asked to create a painting of the second coming. It took about a year to finish, but it is beautiful and very meaningful. Mr. Greene made a point to include people of every race, background, and time so they would feel seen. The painting includes numerous Andrews Academy alumni, a current student, and a current faculty member as models. Mr. Greene could have accepted higher-paying jobs at various stages of his career, but he stuck to his beliefs and his mission in life. In summary, he encouraged each student to embrace their beliefs and think about the impact they leave on the world.

Student Association pastor Benny Santos presented for chapel on Thursday. His presentation was titled Joy Comes in the Morning. In reflection on the past month, Benny realized he has made some mistakes. This reminded him of when Peter denied Jesus. Even though he knew this would happen, Jesus still loved and forgave Peter. When He died on the cross, Jesus saw all of the mistakes we would make and still made that sacrifice. To close, Benny encouraged us to

  1. Believe we are loved

  2. Repent of our sins

  3. Turn back to our Heavenly Father

For chapel today (Friday), Nevaeh Hippler presented. While scheduling a chapel talk for her cousin, Max Snyder, Pastor Ferguson asked Nevaeh to do one also. Over the week, Nevaeh was subconsciously avoiding Ferguson and his request. However, Pastor Taurus challenged the seniors to be world changers at their last vespers. Nevaeh took this as her sign to say yes. For today, she focused on Moses. Like Moses, Nevaeh hates public speaking. Moses came up with excuses of why he would be a bad speaker, but God said He would have Moses' back. Even though you may feel inadequate, Nevaeh reminded us that God doesn't call the equipped; He equips the called.

Junior Class Cookie Dough Fundraiser Continues

Now that the other class fundraisers have concluded the juniors would like to continue to sell the unexpected extra cookie dough we received last December. The remaining cookie dough containers can store over a year in the freezer. They have been kept frozen since December and are available for anyone interested in supporting the Junior class and enjoying fresh cookies. Each container can make 30 cookies. We are selling them at a discounted price of $10. Please stop by Atkins’ classroom to pick some up or contact any junior who would be happy to pick one up for you. We still have many chocolate chip available.

Important: Remember that in order to order lunch, students must have a signed contract with AU Dining Services/Bon Appetit and their ID card. Also, lunches need to be ordered online or through the GET Mobile app at least one day in advance (by 5 PM). See instructions in a previous E-Sanjo or contact Dining Services for more information - 269-471-3161 or ds@andrews.edu. If a student orders lunch but then is absent that day, please email Dining Services by 9:00 AM to cancel the order.
