Band & Orion Strings Tour Continues
Andrews Academy Band & Orion Strings are enjoying their New York City and Washington, DC, tour, where they are performing at various churches and schools. These tours are such an excellent educational experience of learning outside of the classroom, not only about music but also history, geography, government, and so many other things as they experience the sights and people of NYC and DC. Please pray for them as they travel many miles, visit numerous sites, and present several concerts.
On Wednesday, they enjoyed the Daniel show at Sight & Sound in Ronks, PA. On Thursday morning, Orion Strings had a performance at Waldwick Adventist School in NJ. They enjoyed some relaxation time swimming in the pool at the hotel, and they have also done some sightseeing in NYC. This evening, as well as tomorrow (Sabbath) morning and evening, they will perform several concerts in the DC/Maryland area.

Community Service Day
Next Friday, April 5

(noon dismissal - no lunch, snacks provided)
Our AA Community Service Day is scheduled for next Friday, April 5. As part of Andrews Academy's educational program, we participate in service to others.
|
|
As a school we feel that it is important for students to learn to serve our community. We devote a day to practicing this concept with the students, as well as having various smaller projects throughout the year.
Please plan to arrive for Week of Prayer devotions at 8:00 AM. Activities for the day include yard work, picking up trash, cleaning windows, etc. Remember to wear closed toe shoes and long pants (no shorts!) for protection as you work. Please bring work gloves. You do not need to wear your AA uniform; however, if you have an AA t-shirt, please represent our school. If you wear a hoodie, it should be appropriate. Our dismissal time will be at 12:00 noon.

Guidance Department Assembly
At various times throughout the year, the guidance department has an assembly with the students on various topics of importance. On Thursday, the school guidance counselor, Ms. Leslie Nieves, invited Alyssa Sussdorf to speak on the topic of grief. She shared many suggestions on how to process grief and how to help others who are in the midst of grieving. This was a very informative presentation.

Chapel Recap
Pastor May, AA religion teacher, has such an interesting repertoire of children’s books that tell insightful stories and has many interesting pictures to go along with the story. She also has an effective way of presenting the story. On Wednesday, the story was about wooden creatures that all wanted to have a painted green nose while the creator of the wooden creatures designed each of them to be unique. Great spiritual insights were gained by this simple children’s story.
On Thursday, Kenny Laguerre, an Mdiv student at AU, reread the story of the lamp and not hiding it under a bushel. He shared the significance of light and how things are supposed to be. He encouraged each to let the Word “light” guide you throughout every detail of your life.
Today (Friday), Pastor May posed the question, "What is truth?" She read some quotes on the topic and had students discuss with each other what they thought was truth. She then wrapped up the program by making some conclusions of what truth is.

Important Attendance Information
- Pre-arranged Absences: Please be sure to fill out a pre-arranged absence card if you know in advance that you will be missing school due to a doctor/dentist/orthodontist appointment, trip, basketball tournament, driver's test, etc. These cards can be found in the main office or online. A parent's signature is required, then the office, and teacher(s) of the class(es) that you will miss.
-
Class Schedule Adjustment (CSA) Requests: A CSA is available for students who have a study hall at the beginning or ending of the school day or will be working during a study hall during the school day. A CSA is required for students who leave the Academy to attend classes at Andrews University, who are going to work off campus, or who wish to begin the school day later or leave earlier on a regular basis. The CSA request form must be filled out and signed by everyone indicated on the form before the student stops attending their study hall. Students must adhere to CSA guidelines that are printed on the CSA application. Any violation may cause the CSA to be revoked. I will email students and parents when a CSA is approved.
- Other Absences: Parents, please call the front office (269-471-3138) or email aaattendance@andrews.edu if your student is going to be absent or tardy. These are the preferable methods.
Please provide the reason why your child will not be attending school and how long you think they will be out.
Parents/Guardians are the only authorized individuals who can excuse a student's attendance. When emailing, parents must send correspondence from their email account to maintain the validity of the request. Please include the name of the student.
From the Sourcebook (pg. 83):
Students who miss three (3) consecutive school days due to illness must provide written documentation from a certified medical professional corroborating the necessity of that absence.
For any attendance questions that you would like to ask by email, please direct these questions to aaattendance@andrews.edu.
Thank you!
