Academy Day
Today, Tuesday, March 7, 2023, 65 guests spent the day with us at Andrews Academy. The day is designed to help eighth grade students become familiar with some of the activities of the school.
Academy Day began with worship, as each school day does. Our principal, Pastor Mario Ferguson, welcomed our guests to Andrews Academy. Today’s worship began with a number of special musics from our music organizations. Song service was led by Academy students. Mrs. Jennifer Gray Woods, AA graduate of the class of 1998, led out in the worship talk. She shared experiences from her time at Andrews Academy, reflected on how AA prepared her for college and John Hopkins, and her career as an attorney. She provided insights for incoming freshmen and focused our attention on developing a relationship with Jesus while at AA. The program concluded with an introduction of each faculty and staff and then prayer.
All students then went to class. Each teacher had a lesson designed to give a taste of what their class is like. For example, Mr. Atkins had eighth grade students learn the parts of the human digestive system and then have the current students quiz our guests. Halfway through the class, the guests switched to another classroom. In many cases, current students led out in classroom activities. The morning ended with a group photo of the class of 2027!
Following this, half of the guests had lunch while the other half met in the chapel for a presentation about what classes to take at Andrews Academy. The school registrar helped students start to fill out a potential schedule for next school year and learn about the steps involved in registering for school. The groups then rotated to the next station. The final event was a fun assembly program which included games, advice from SA leaders, and awards. Pastor Ferguson then had closing remarks and prayer.
More than half of the guests were able to stay for basketball, volleyball, and a pizza snack. We hope that each guest had a great day and will choose to attend AA next year.

Please plan for Parent/Teacher Conferences via Zoom on March 29 & 30. School will dismiss at 12:00 PM on both days to accommodate the conferences. Conferences on Wednesday, March 29, will be from 4:00 – 8:00 PM, and conferences on Thursday, March 30, will be from 2:00 – 5:00 PM.
Online signups will open on Tuesday, March 14. The last day to sign up will be Tuesday, March 28.
If things are going well for your child in their class, please do not feel like you have to make an appointment with the teacher. If you would like to, you can make an appointment, but making an unnecessary appointment will result in fewer appointments available for those that really need to have a conference.
To sign up online, please go to http://gotsession.com/aa and complete the following steps:
- Fill out the form (please use full parent and student names).
- Select a time for your conference.
- Click the “Add to Cart” button.
- Click the “View Cart” button to view your scheduled time.
- Click the “Submit Order” button to save your appointment.
These steps MUST be done for EACH appointment.
In your confirmation email, you will receive the teacher’s Zoom information.
If you need additional help to schedule via mobile device or PC/Mac, please click on a video tutorial link below.
- How to schedule a conference using a mobile device
- How to schedule a conference using a PC/Mac
We encourage students to attend these conferences with their parent.
Please note that only full-time teachers are listed. Contract and college/dual enrollment class teachers aren't listed. If you have a desire to conference with a contract teacher, the office will be able to provide you with contact information. College teachers must be reached through the University.
If spots are filled or there is not a time slot that is workable for you, please feel free to email the teachers through the FACTS portal and schedule an appointment that works for both of you.
We look forward to meeting with you.

AA Participation in AU Music Festival
Andrews University Music Festival 2023 was held from March 4-7. The four-day festival, for academy and high school musicians, celebrated the accomplishments of each player and challenged their artistic expression. The daily agenda was comprised of inspirational ensemble rehearsals interspersed with specialized clinics and master classes for all attendees. This year the emphasis was for strings and choir. During church on Sabbath at PMC, choir attendees presented special music. Andrews Academy choir members made up a lot of the combined festival choir. There was a final concert Saturday evening at the Howard.
