Band and Bells Tour 2022

The annual Andrews Academy Symphonic Band and Handbell Ensemble Tour (March 16-22, 2022) departed Andrews Academy on Wednesday afternoon. Since it was a cloudy afternoon, students were eager to get out of town and enjoy the sunshine and warm temperatures of Florida. We are praying that they have a safe and blessed trip as they share Jesus through music while on tour.

On Thursday, the group visited the Kennedy Space Center and Cocoa Beach! It was warm enough to do some swimming, although it looks like  only those from Michigan were in the water. Sun, sea, sand, and food: no matter if on the land or in the sea, the kids had a great time under the watchful eyes of the teachers. In the evening, they returned to Forest Lake Academy where they had worship together to end their day. Friday and through the weekend is when the musical presentations occurred.

We thank Mr. David Cheng, one of the volunteer sponsors, for taking pictures as well as video. Both can be found in the Facebook album. More pictures will be added throughout their tour as they become available.

Online signups are now open. The last day to sign up is March 30.

If things are going well for your child in their class, please do not feel like you have to make an appointment with the teacher. If you would like to, you can make an appointment, but making an unnecessary appointment will result in fewer appointments available for those that really need to have a conference.

When online signups open, please go to http://gotsession.com/aa to sign up and complete the following steps:

  1. Fill out the form (please use full parent and student names).
  2. Select a time for your conference.
  3. Click the “Add to Cart” button.
  4. Click the “View Cart” button to view your scheduled time.
  5. Click the “Submit Order” button to save your appointment.

These steps MUST be done for EACH appointment.

In your confirmation email, you will receive the teacher’s Zoom information.

If you need additional help to schedule via mobile device or PC/Mac, please click on a video tutorial link below.

  1. How to schedule a conference using a mobile device
  2. How to schedule a conference using a PC/Mac

We encourage students to attend these conferences with their parent.

Please note that only full-time teachers are listed. Contract and college/dual enrollment class teachers aren't listed. If you have a desire to conference with a contract teacher, the office will be able to provide you with contact information. College teachers must be reached through the University. Music teachers are listed when available as they teach for RMES as well.

If spots are filled or there is not a time slot that is workable for you, please feel free to email the teachers through the FACTS portal and schedule an appointment that works for both of you.

We look forward to meeting with you.

Chapels this Week

On Wednesday, Pastor Kevin Messina, father of freshman Evia Dasher, was our guest speaker. Pastor Kevin told a short story about a lady who bought a parrot for companionship. However, the parrot wouldn’t talk. The lady returned to the pet store for help until, one day, the parrot died. When the store owner asked if the parrot said anything before it died, the lady responded saying, “Yes, it said, ‘Do they sell any food down there?’”

Pastor Kevin likened this to Christians who say and do all the right things, but don’t have the bare essentials in their walk with God. As a teenager, Pastor Kevin committed his life to the para-rescue services. Unfortunately, he was honorably discharged for medical reasons. After this, Pastor Kevin lost himself in worldly pleasures. Eventually, he was converted and chose to be baptized. He says his conversion led him to his new calling, and Jesus became his “why.” Pastor Kevin reminded us that, no matter what we’ve done, Jesus loves us all deeply and died for us. To close, he invited us to pray with him and accept Jesus into our hearts.

Thursday’s chapel included an unusual approach. The students who were not on music tour were divided into five groups and met in various locations. There the group leader read the scripture that was assigned, and they discussed the INTERPRETATION of the text trying to understand the context and the writer’s intent. The groups then discussed three APPLICATIONS, lessons we can learn and apply to our lives. The groups returned to the chapel, and a representative from each group reported back to the entire group. It was a very interactive worship experience.

Friday’s chapel provided two options for students. Students were invited to join small groups where student leaders led in prayer, or to stay in the chapel as Ben Santos, SA pastor, led in a worship talk. He shared insight on how sometimes as Christians, we focus on standards. Standards are good for safety in buildings, etc. However, too often, we compare ourselves to our peers. We then ponder the ifs, such as "if only I was taller to play basketball better." Ben invited us to try something different. Remember that Christ died for us, and we are worthy just as we are, being in Him.

We should also let go of other ways of thinking and remember Mathew 6: if Jesus cares so much for the sparrow, how much more does He care for us! We are so valuable in Him.
