Symphonic Band Tour - Philadelphia 2023

Andrews Academy's Symphonic Band is on tour from March 29 - April 2, 2023. They loaded the bus very early Wednesday morning and traveled to Blue Mountain Academy in Hamburg, PA, presenting an evening concert there. On Thursday morning, they enjoyed Sight & Sound's Moses, and then traveled to Philadelphia and had a clinic with Dr. Patricia Cornett (Temple U.) in the evening.

Today, Friday, they saw the sights of Philadelphia (Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and more). This afternoon, they spent some time at the mall and will have an evening performance at a Hispanic Adventist Church in the area. Stay tuned to Facebook for more highlights of this tour.

Thank you, Dr. Elsy M. Gallardo-Diaz, for the many hours of practice and teamwork building as you work with the Academy students to make such beautiful music and plan these tours. And thank you to numerous volunteers who joined this tour to help with supervision to make this tour possible.

Activities for the day include yard work, picking up trash, cleaning windows, etc. A reminder to wear closed toe shoes and long pants (no shorts!) for protection as you work. Chapels and an Assembly this Week

This week's chapels featured a prayer day—where Ms. Nancy Kardos-Moldovan asked students to write down their prayer requests or praises and share them with others who then prayed for them. We also heard from three teachers—Ms. Chao talked about her journey to becoming a Seventh-day Adventist, Mr. Wright talked about how Jesus meets us where we are but asks us to "go and sin no more," and Mr. Atkins talked about synapses and how we should repeatedly approach God's Word so that our brains are wired to remember it above anything else. Today (Friday) we heard from AU Chaplain Jose Bourget about how we are called to be "disruptive" peacemakers and encouraged students to step out of their comfort zone to help resolve conflicts around them.

On Thursday, we also had an assembly that was put together by our newly-created Cool 2 Be Kind chapter, a club that advocates for anti-bullying on not just the AA campus but around the world. We first heard from Mama Leigh Leigh and her experience as the parent of a child who was bullied. We'd like to thank her for her testimony and strength for speaking about such a sensitive topic. We then Zoomed with a representative of the national Cool 2 Be Kind Club. He shared the story of his brother, Daniel, whose death spurred their high school to create the first Cool 2 Be Kind chapter. He was joined on Zoom by another member of the Cool 2 Be Kind Club, and together they presented on how to prevent bullying and encouraged students to speak out against such acts. We are deeply grateful for their time and for the reminder about what we can do to better love our neighbors and how to be brave against injustice, just as Christ demonstrated for us.

AA Uniforms Available from Lands' End

We have renewed our relationship with Lands’ End for uniform needs. More selections for uniforms are now included, such as a button-down shirt, a long-sleeved polo, and a sweater. Click on the option(s) that you would like, then choose the size (kid or adult). Please be mindful that Andrews Academy is not responsible for your orders.

We are working on other jacket options.

Please review the Sourcebook (pgs 79-81) for more information regarding uniforms. Only approved logoed uniform wear is allowed. A solid-color, long sleeved undershirt may be worn under the AA short-sleeved polo (no writing should be visible on the undershirt). If a student is wearing an AA logoed jacket, they should also have an AA logoed shirt underneath.

If you need PE uniform items, please see Pastor Ferguson at lunch time or after school (cash only).

Opting into Texting for One Call Now

Andrews Academy utilizes One Call Now, an automated messaging service, to contact students and parents about school cancellations, upcoming events, and performances, etc.

Please make sure that we have the phone number that you would like to have contacted. We also send an email, put the announcement on our Facebook and Instagram pages, and alert local TV stations (WSBT, WNDU, ABC57).

To receive a text notification instead of a call (text works best), please text “ALERT” to 22300. Please make sure that you have given us the number that you would like to be texted on as well. Email ginam@andrews.edu with any changes. Thank you!

FACTS or Andrews Username Log In Help

If you need help logging in to FACTS or help with your Andrews user name/email and password, please contact Mrs. Meekma (ginam@andrews.edu) in the front office.
