July 13, 2021
Dear Families,
Hope you are enjoying your summer. This time last year, our nation was in quarantine. What a difference a year makes! It appears that our state/country is heading in the direction of resuming normalcy.
The status of Berrien County indicates that we are in a phase of low transmission. If the current conditions remain, it will create a more favorable learning environment with less COVID-19 restrictions for the 2021-22 school year. We will continue to monitor and update you with the latest information from the agencies we work in partnership with to ensure we continue with the best policies and procedures.
Thank you for your commitment to Christian Education. Please continue to check your emails for our E-Sanjo news and announcements. We will send relevant information throughout the summer.
Isaiah 40:31: But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.
We will continue to hope and pray for renewed strength as we move towards a new school year.

Ms. Rebecca Wright Steps Down as English Teacher after 25 Years at AA
One of the hardest and yet often most necessary realities of our human life is the perpetual call for change. While we know that change is often difficult, it is also one of the greatest catalysts for growth. Students at Andrews Academy consider the role of change in human life in a number of the classes they take, and change doesn’t just affect them. Sometimes, our faculty and staff find themselves facing life changes as well. This summer, one of our English Department faculty, Ms. Wright, is stepping away from her duties as a Supervising Instructor of English at Andrews Academy.
As you may know, Ms. Wright’s relationship with the Academy began in 1995 as a student teacher under the guidance of Mr. Tom Baker, and then it evolved to contract work as a substitute teacher, and eventually became a full-time position. As she recalls, “It is no exaggeration to say that Andrews Academy has been my professional 'home' for all of my adult working life, and I do not take an extrication from it at all lightly. I have so deeply appreciated the opportunities for growth, connection, and service that my time here has afforded. I have worked with some of the finest teaching professionals anywhere, dear colleagues who have become my very real 'shoulder companions,' and I have laughed with (at!) and cried with them. The students have inspired, encouraged, surprised, occasionally mystified, and often delighted me, and it’s been a privilege to serve them. Thank you for that.”
THANK YOU, Ms. Wright, for your years of service to Andrews Academy. We wish you well as pursue the next chapter of your life's journey, and pray God’s blessings go with you!
This picture was taken at the last faculty gathering together. Following her announcement to the faculty, Pastor Mario Ferguson led in a prayer of blessing on Ms. Wright as she pursues new endeavors.

Senior Pictures & Ads for Yearbook
PLEASE DO YOUR SENIOR PICTURE THIS SUMMER - DUE OCTOBER 22.
Senior pictures are needed for yearbook, Sanjo Senior edition, class night, and the class composite to be hung in the AA commons. The yearbook needs your senior and baby pictures by October 22, 2021. The senior section of the yearbook is being worked on near that time.
We encourage you to get your senior picture done during the summer before the busy school year begins. Photographers get busy in the late summer and fall, so you may want to book an appointment early. PLEASE PLAN AHEAD and get your picture done in a timely manner.
Please send an electronic senior picture (JPEG) to the yearbook team (aayearbook@andrews.edu). You do not have to go to a professional photographer for this picture, but please make sure you follow the picture requirements.

|
|
Pictures must adhere to the following requirements:
- In color
- Picture from waist up (not entire body)
- Portrait/vertical mode (not landscape/horizontal)

If you cannot scan the picture, you can bring the baby picture to the yearbook staff, and they will scan it for you.
Also, please plan ahead for senior yearbook ad night in early fall, during Senior Spirit Week. At that time, you and your parents can purchase senior ads for the yearbook.
If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Silvestre at silvestre@andrews.edu.

AA Art Teacher Receives Awards
Andrews Academy art teacher (and AA alumnus) Mr. Zech Ray participated in the Michiana Annual Art Competition that recently occurred. At this art exhibition, they award only first place or honorable mention in a given category. Mr. Ray submitted two artworks and received first place in watercolor Summer Lillies, and honorable mention in oil painting Skipping Stones. Please congratulate him the next time you see him.

AA Renovations & "Spring" Cleaning
Mr. Steeves and his crew of student workers continue to be very busy this summer. Each room is having the furnishings removed, and the floor either waxed or carpet steam cleaned. Each piece of furniture is also being cleaned. The light fixtures throughout the school are cleaned not only on the outside, but are also unlatched and cleaned on the inside as well. Thank you, Mr. Steeves, and crew for your efforts in preparing the school for the Fall.
The library is undergoing some changes now that COVID restrictions have been modified, and now there are tables instead of individual desks. The two doors on the south side of the library is where the bookstore was, and that room is now being retrofitted to become the media room where the mobile computer laptop cabinets, Swivl cameras, and many other media supplies are stored.
