SA Banquet

This year’s SA banquet was held this past Sunday evening, and the theme of the evening was the “Academy Awards.” The students and staff enjoyed the event which included a meal of a tossed salad, catered pizza, dessert pizza, bite size churros, and Crumble Cookies. The entertainment for the evening was hosted by Mr. Gabriel Johnson and Ms. Leslie Nieves, who introduced the musical talent for the evening as well as the “awards.” After the meal and the award ceremony, the students were able to get their photo taken by a professional photographer, use the 360-video booth, take selfies in front of the lit-up star or the balloon arch, and socialize in the upstairs lounge area fit with standing tables and seats. The AA gym was transformed from its traditional state to one fit for the occasion with twinkle lights, balloons, and a stage with a beautiful backdrop. The gym was absolutely stunning. I heard a lot of gasps and “Wow’s” as the students made their way down the red carpet to the seating area. Hearing that and seeing all the smiles throughout the evening made all the time and effort put in worth it.

I want to take this moment and thank the Student Association officers, sponsors, faculty, and staff for all of your support and help in making this event such a special occasion for the students at AA. I would also like to send a huge thank you to all of the parents that gave of their time and their support as well. The parents were involved in the planning, execution, and cleaning up following the banquet. If it were not for all of the time and support from the parents, this banquet would have been very different. You heard the vision of the SA officers, and were able to execute a beautiful event. Thank you so much from my heart, I cannot even begin to express the amount of love and support that I felt throughout this process.

THANK YOU,

Mrs. Samantha Mills

Student Association Sponsor

AA Music Groups Present in Area Churches

Thank you, Dr. Elsy Gallardo-Diaz and Mr. Marcelo Martins, and all musicians for sharing Jesus through music in our community. Orion Strings, under the direction of Dr. Elsy Gallardo-Diaz, was at PMC this past Sabbath, April 13. Members from her band also led in song service.

A week ago (April 6), handbells presented special music at Niles Westside Adventist Church. Numerous people commented on how beautiful the music was for both performances. Thank you, musicians and directors!

Class Vespers

Periodically during the school year, the class officers and sponsors plan and then run a class vespers and often an activity for each of the classes. Three of the four classes had vespers this past Friday evening, and the sophomores will have theirs in a couple of weeks since they were very busy with their fundraiser the weekend before. The following is a report on the freshman vespers.

Forty freshmen enjoyed their treasure hunt vespers on Sabbath evening, April 13, 2024. After roasting hotdogs by the campfire, students hiked the 1.1 miles of trails looking for treasures of chocolate and lessons from nature. Students found papers on the trail at various locations that had a nature nugget, Bible verse, and spiritual lesson one could learn from nature. Then they returned to the campfire and shared the lessons they learned with the rest of the class, which was interspersed with singing by the class. Ms. G, the vice principal, led in the closing prayer to conclude the Sabbath. The evening ended with s’mores before students departed for home.

For more photos, go to the class of 2027 Facebook album, and freshmen (and parents) please join this class FB group.

Chapel Recap

Prayer Monday was led by religion teacher, Pastor May. She had students participate in four different prayer times based on ACTS - adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication. She read portions of Psalm 8 to begin the prayer time.

Today (Tuesday), AA Junior, Samantha Mitole, presented an interactive visual presentation. She was praying for cake, and God answered her prayer with all of the ingredients for the cake, but she still did not have a cake. God may answer our prayers a little differently than we expect, and sometimes we need to do our part, like taking the ingredients He gave and making a cake. Remember that He gives you all you need, even if its different than what you prayed for.

Important Attendance Information

  • Pre-arranged Absences: Please be sure to fill out a pre-arranged absence card if you know in advance that you will be missing school due to a doctor/dentist/orthodontist appointment, trip, basketball tournament, driver's test, etc. These cards can be found in the main office or online. A parent's signature is required, then the office, and teacher(s) of the class(es) that you will miss.
  • Class Schedule Adjustment (CSA) Requests: A CSA is available for students who have a study hall at the beginning or ending of the school day or will be working during a study hall during the school day. A CSA is required for students who leave the Academy to attend classes at Andrews University, who are going to work off campus, or who wish to begin the school day later or leave earlier on a regular basis. The CSA request form must be filled out and signed by everyone indicated on the form before the student stops attending their study hall. Students must adhere to CSA guidelines that are printed on the CSA application. Any violation may cause the CSA to be revoked. I will email students and parents when a CSA is approved.

  • Other Absences: Parents, please call the front office (269-471-3138) or email aaattendance@andrews.edu if your student is going to be absent or tardy. These are the preferable methods.

Please provide the reason why your child will not be attending school and how long you think they will be out.

Parents/Guardians are the only authorized individuals who can excuse a student's attendance. When emailing, parents must send correspondence from their email account to maintain the validity of the request. Please include the name of the student.

From the Sourcebook (pg. 83):

Students who miss three (3) consecutive school days due to illness must provide written documentation from a certified medical professional corroborating the necessity of that absence.

For any attendance questions that you would like to ask by email, please direct these questions to aaattendance@andrews.edu.

Thank you!
