New England Education Tour

Mr. Sherman, AA social studies teacher, and a group of sponsors departed early on Sunday morning for a history tour of New England from April 24-29, 2022. They are seeing many sights, and for the major locations, they are going on guided tours to experience and understand the history that occurred at that location. When one looks at the itinerary, its amazing that Mr. Sherman can fit in so many sites in such a short time.

Sunday involved a full day’s travel to the Boston area. Monday morning was spent at Lexington and Concord, where “the shot heard round the world” occurred. This began the American Revolutionary War. Monday afternoon was spent on Boston’s Freedom Trail of historic landmarks. There they saw Old North Church, toured the USS Constitution, USS Constitution Museum, and many other sights. Then they traveled to Plymouth, Massachusetts. Today (Tuesday), they visited Plymouth Plantation, toured the Mayflower II, and saw Plymouth Rock in the morning. This afternoon they visited the Breakers Mansion in Newport, Rhode Island.

Home Skills Class

Andrews Academy offers a Home Skills class, which is a very practical class to learn the basics of taking care of a home. Some portions of the curriculum include basic home repair, but on the day these pictures were taken, students were learning some basic cooking skills.

The photographer was happy to take pictures of this class because they offered a plate of their prepared dish. It was very tasty!

Junior Class Cookie Dough Fundraiser Continues

Now that the other class fundraisers have concluded the juniors would like to continue to sell the unexpected extra cookie dough we received last December. The remaining cookie dough containers can store over a year in the freezer. They have been kept frozen since December and are available for anyone interested in supporting the Junior class and enjoying fresh cookies. Each container can make 30 cookies. We are selling them at a discounted price of $10. Please stop by Atkins’ classroom to pick some up or contact any junior who would be happy to pick one up for you. We have many chocolate chip, 2 white chip macadamia nut, and 1 snickerdoodle available.

Chapels this Week

On Monday, we were lucky to have Mrs. Pellegrini deliver a devotional for chapel. A couple of years ago, she and her oldest daughter bought a strawberry planter. They planted and grew some strawberries after buying the pot. However, it ended up not being used for a while. When they dug the planter out again, a tiny pine tree had begun growing inside it! The pine tree doesn't belong in the strawberry planter. Sometimes we can feel like this—like we don't belong. Mrs. Pellegrini reminded us that the Bible tells us that this world is not our home. One day, when Christ returns, we will join Him in our true home.

After a song service today (Tuesday), Mrs. Pellegrini presented an object lesson helping us visualize how we can share the Good News of Jesus with others. In January she started sharing hot apple cider and tea with her students. Before long, the word got around and others joined in and enjoyed her treats. She compared this activity here in “AA’s world” to that of the entire world. By sight or by word of mouth, others started to learn about her gifts. Likewise in our lives, we see or hear about God’s gifts for us. Sometimes friends had to encourage each other to enjoy the gifts she supplied just as we should tell our friends about God’s gifts.

The students of AA had to first receive the gifts of these drinks to understand and appreciate to share with others. Likewise, we need to have a spiritual journey with God to experience these gifts to be able to share Jesus with others. She concluded with the statement that the door is still open for those students who have not yet enjoyed these gifts she is sharing. If you have not experienced gifts from God, His Door is still open for you to receive these gifts. Thank you, Mrs. Pellegrini, for sharing a very real and personal object lesson for us.
