Home Ec Class

Last week, Dr. David VanDenburgh, retired pastor, teacher, and the father of AA teacher Mr. VanDenburgh, taught students in Home Skills/Home Ec a week-long unit on cooking. They began with the basics of frying an egg, transitioned into cooking an omelet—which included instruction in how to handle cutlery and prepare vegetables—and concluded by preparing a vegan Thai vegetable curry.

The class normally includes one day each week devoted to a cooking lab, but the week-long unit added depth and continuity. It also ensured instruction continued while Mr. VanDenburgh, who has been teaching Home Ec since spring break, participated in an accreditation site visit. AA values community members who contribute their time and talents to enrich our students' lives. Thank you, Dr. VanDenburgh!

Hebrews Bible Class

Hebrews Bible class recently had a guest speaker, Dr. Richard M. Davidson from the AU seminary, share about the sanctuary. He brought in matzah, arugula, and apple butter for the class to experience Passover together, since Passover occurred recently! He also brought sheep visuals as he talked through the sacrificial system—which literally points to Jesus (see the cross presented). A student was dressed as Aaron, the high priest, would have been. Dr. Davidson went through the symbolism present in the colors, bells, pomegranates, and gems. He has slowly collected rocks that portray these colors, which he passed around for students to see.

AA Uniforms Available from Lands' End

We have renewed our relationship with Lands’ End for uniform needs. More selections for uniforms are now included, such as a button-down shirt, a long-sleeved polo, and a sweater. Click on the option(s) that you would like, then choose the size (kid or adult). Please be mindful that Andrews Academy is not responsible for your orders.

We are working on other jacket options.

Please review the Sourcebook (pgs 79-81) for more information regarding uniforms. Only approved logoed uniform wear is allowed. A solid-color, long sleeved undershirt may be worn under the AA short-sleeved polo (no writing should be visible on the undershirt). If a student is wearing an AA logoed jacket, they should also have an AA logoed shirt underneath.

If you need PE uniform items, please see Pastor Ferguson at lunch time or after school (cash only).
