England Tour 2025, Pt 2
The group of students on the England educational tour continue to experience and see the history of England and visit the sites of great English authors. Here is an update since the last E-Sanjo report:
The group went to St. Peter’s and St. Paul’s in Olney, home of the hymn Amazing Grace. Members of Silhouettes who are on the tour sang Amazing Grace. This was under the direction of Oscar Flores, AA senior!
Next they went to St. Mary’s Church in Lutterworth, where John Wycliff was Rector and translated the Bible into English for the first time. The current rector talked to the students about Wycliff. (March 29, 2025)
The next day, they visited Anne Hathaway's cottage (Shakespeare’s wife), Shakespeare’s birthplace, and Holy Trinity Church, where Shakespeare is buried. This was followed by a tour of Oxford. (March 30, 2025)
While in London, they toured the Whitehall area, British Museum, and the London Eye. (March 31, 2025.)
On Tuesday, they visited Cambridge and went punting on the River Cam, sang and saw a first edition King James Bible at Great St. Mary’s Church, and did some sightseeing around the town. (April 1, 2025)

Creativity in Physical Science Class
Ms. Chao’s physical science class does about half a year of chemistry followed by about half a year of physics. Recently they were studying the physics behind sound and hearing and how instruments work. Each student created their own instrument with these fundamentals in mind. They were playing their instruments when these pictures were taken. (March 26, 2028)

Bible Study
Tomorrow, Sabbath, April 5
5:00-7:00 PM
AA Library
All Andrews Academy students are invited to a Bible Study Sabbath experience.
This Bible Study Sabbath is a revival of the Bible Studies we experienced last year on a few select Sabbaths. It has been a wonderful blessing to open the Bible and wrestle through some of the tough Bible questions you, the students, have in our Bible classes and through last year's Q&A times. Because we'd like to continue this tradition of our Bible Study and Q&A, we have a Sabbath afternoon set aside for just this.
All AA students who are interested in attending this experience, please fill out this Google Form. It will help us prepare accordingly, especially concerning the finger food portion.
|
|
 |
There is also further information towards the end of the form to help you prepare/know what to bring.
I am looking forward to this experience, and hope you are too! May the LORD cover this experience with His blessing and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit as we dig into the Bible to ground our walk with the LORD.
As always, if there are any questions, comments, concerns, etc., please feel free to contact me. ~ Mrs. May (kardosmoldo@andrews.edu)
Use your AU email address to sign up - for AA students only.

Tubs are available for immediate pickup. Please contact Mr. Atkins at satkins@andrews.edu or reach out to a sophomore if you would like some frozen cookie dough to help complete the sophomore class fundraiser ($20/tub - each tub can make 32 cookies).

As the AA school year and events are well under way, we are thrilled with the parent involvement thus far. There are many more opportunities to serve, and I encourage you to look ahead at the school calendar of events.
Please email me (aappi@andrews.edu) if you are available and willing to serve at any of these events. Note that all volunteers need to do the Sterling Volunteers training and background check, providing proof to AA. ~ Mrs. Kimberly Spare

Chapel Recap: 1 Samuel 18-31
On Monday, Pastor Denry White, from Highland Avenue Church in Benton Harbor, shared four “notifications” (reminders) that we should keep in mind that will bless our lives:
-
Remember the Sabbath day and the renewal and rest it provides.
-
Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, so as we get busy in our daily lives as adults, we will remember these treasures.
-
Remember Lot’s wife and not turn around and look back as you move forward doing God’s will.
-
Remember me when you come into your kingdom, to always remember the free gift of Salvation that has been given to each of us.

On Tuesday, the students divided into small Bible study groups and were asked to dig out the spiritual insights from 1 Samuel 18-31. The group led by Sebastian Silie (pictured) is leading in the competition between the groups as they study the Bible. This group was divided into smaller groups, with one of these small groups in the second picture. The group wrote down their collective insights from these texts, and points were assigned for the insights they recorded—a little competition as they worked together studying the Bible.

On Wednesday, there was a fun game of Jeopardy, led by student teacher and AA alum, Mr. Hunter Penn. The chapel was divided into three sections as they chose a category and difficulty level to gain the points if they knew the proper answer.
On Fridays we focus on prayer, and today's chapel began with prayer time where students were to ask each other for (unrelated school) things to pray about. Then they prayed for each other. Mrs. Dockerty, mother of senior Anabel, summarized the highlights of 1 Samuel 18-31. She then shared the five phases of prayer that can be utilized to have an in-depth prayer time with Jesus. She also shared how she journals during her prayer time by writing her thoughts in each of the phases of prayer. This really helps her focus her prayer time with Jesus.

Attention Students: If you would like Friday's boxed lunch, those who are signed up for the lunch program must order it each week by Wednesday at 2:00 PM. The sign-up sheet will be at lunch or in the front office.
Parents: To sign your student up for the lunch program or add funds to your student's account, please pay at the Academy main office (cash/check/credit card) until a website is set up to load funds online. You may still pay cash or check in the Academy office even when the website is available. The preset amount for 20 lunches is $132, unless your student has been approved for reduced lunch.

Youth & Young Adult Week of Prayer at Harbor of Hope
|
|
The Highland Ave Adventist Church is hosting a Youth & Young Adult Week of Prayer between April 5-12 on select evenings at 5 PM at Harbor of Hope (769 Pipestone St, Benton Harbor).
They extend an invitation to the students of Andrews Academy to participate as speakers in this special series. The theme is The Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), where each session will focus on one aspect of the fruit of the Spirit—highlighting Christ and our calling as His children to bear fruit that blesses and nourishes others.
This is a wonderful opportunity for students to grow spiritually, develop their gifts, and engage with the wider faith community; tasting and seeing, eating and being healed, hearing and being saved, taking part and being nourished. If you are interested in speaking or participating, please contact Pastor Caris Wright (Pastorcaris@havchurch.com).

Important Attendance Information
- Pre-arranged Absences: Please be sure to fill out a pre-arranged absence card if you know in advance that you will be missing school due to a doctor/dentist/orthodontist appointment, trip, basketball tournament, driver's test, etc. These cards can be found in the main office or online. A parent's signature is required, then the office, and teacher(s) of the class(es) that you will miss.
-
Class Schedule Adjustment (CSA) Requests: A CSA is available for students who have a study hall at the beginning or ending of the school day or will be working during a study hall during the school day. A CSA is required for students who leave the Academy to attend classes at Andrews University, who are going to work off campus, or who wish to begin the school day later or leave earlier on a regular basis. The CSA request form must be filled out and signed by everyone indicated on the form before the student stops attending their study hall. Students must adhere to CSA guidelines that are printed on the CSA application. Any violation may cause the CSA to be revoked. I will email students and parents when a CSA is approved.
- Other Absences: Parents, please call the front office (269-471-3138) or email aaattendance@andrews.edu if your student is going to be absent or tardy. These are the preferable methods.
Please provide the reason why your child will not be attending school and how long you think they will be out.
Parents/Guardians are the only authorized individuals who can excuse a student's attendance. When emailing, parents must send correspondence from their email account to maintain the validity of the request. Please include the name of the student.
From the Sourcebook (pg. 83):
Students who miss three (3) consecutive school days due to illness must provide written documentation from a certified medical professional corroborating the necessity of that absence.
For any attendance questions that you would like to ask by email, please direct these questions to aaattendance@andrews.edu.
Thank you!
