Orion Strings at Gobles Church

Andrews Academy's Orion Strings presented special music for Gobles Adventist church this past Sabbath, February 26, 2022. Thank you to Dr. Elsy M. Gallardo-Diaz and all of the Andrews Academy students who are taking music classes for their many hours of practice and the performances you do. These songs do indeed draw us closer to God during our worship experiences.

Andrews Academy Student Association is proud to present The Masque Royal, our spring banquet, next Sunday, March 13, 2022, from 4:45 to 9:30 PM. Our banquet will be a masquerade themed event at The Palais Royale Ballroom in downtown South Bend. This is a Sadie Hawkins year, which is meant to encourage girls to ask guys to the banquet, but remember you can also go with friends or alone! We encourage everyone to come, and we promise that smiles will be had and memories will be made!

Please note the Dress Code for School Banquets on page 80 of the school Sourcebook. Students without appropriate apparel will be asked to change, per page 80. If you have any questions about apparel, please contact the appropriate SA sponsor: Mrs. Mills or Mr. Steinkraus.

The event will start and end at AA; therefore, no one may drive themselves or be dropped off, and everyone must take the school transportation provided. Be at Andrews Academy at 4:45 to load the buses. We will LEAVE the AA parking lot at 5:15, so please arrive before then.

If you have any questions, contact any SA officer right away. Permission slips and more pertinent information will follow!

New Face-Covering Policy

Today, March 1, 2022, was a momentous day at Andrews Academy—face-coverings became optional. Some decided to continue to wear the mask, while others chose not to. Mr. Atkins has decided for now that when teaching from the front of the class, he will not wear a mask; however when working closely with students, such as in labs or answering questions, he will wear a mask.

It was almost two years ago, on Friday, March 13, 2020, that we as a school decided to start spring break one day early because of this new thing, COVID-19. The school also decided to take two weeks after spring break as online learning, hoping to go back to the classroom after those two weeks. Little did we know that the rest of the school year would be online, and that two years later, there would still be many precautions being taken. When Mr. Atkins mentioned to the class that March 13, 2020, was the first day of cancelling school, one student spoke up saying we should have waited until March 13, 2022, to switch to the new face-covering policy (to make it an even two years). However, many others spoke up saying, "No, earlier is better than waiting until March 13!" We appreciate the co-operation of the students and families as we’ve had to wear masks for so many months while at school.

Chapels this Week

On Monday, Princess Khatri-Chetri presented chapel, discussing her family trip to Nepal last fall. It had been ten years since they returned to Nepal, so they were happy to get back to see family but also sad because this trip included being present for a memorial service for their uncle who died last year due to COVID. She shared how it’s illegal to do Christian evangelism. She shared some things the Adventist church they visited are doing and are in need of. She then shared a number of rituals their non-Christian family members did as part of the memorial service for their uncle, which was a multi-day event of rituals. Princess concluded that she and her family are so glad to be Christian. They do not have to do a bunch of traditions but instead have the free gift and promises of salvation in Jesus. We do not have to do works to be saved, just choose Jesus (John 8:12).

On Tuesday, Pastor Pratt, PMC youth pastor, presented a short devotion to start womens’ history month. She mentioned Marie Curie, the first person to develop, research, and coin the phrase "radioactivity." Pastor Pratt is also the first woman to be a youth pastor at PMC. Pastor Pratt’s devotion focused on Abigail, the wife of the wicked Nabal. David asked if his men could join the party Nabal was having after sheering his sheep. Nabal said no, so David sought vengeance. Nabal’s wife, Abigail, went out of her way to bravely save her family.

Sometimes it can be hard to stand-up for what is right like Abigail did. However, Pastor Pratt encouraged us to have courage, stand-up, remember Abigail, and be the first to make a change.
