AA Graduation - Consecration

Friday evening’s Consecration program at Village Adventist Church marked a meaningful milestone for the graduating students (May 23, 2025). It was a special time for them to commit and dedicate their lives to Christ as they prepare to leave the Academy and step into adulthood.
The service began with an opening prayer by Mrs. Sarah Burks, followed by a musical selection from senior Zoleka Sibanda

Senior Leah Reid then introduced the evening’s guest speaker, Pastor Lindsey Pratt, who serves as both youth pastor at PMC and chaplain at AA.

“Seniors, you're standing on the edge of something new—just like the Israelites once did,” Pastor Pratt began. She shared a childhood memory of a church hike gone wrong. At around ten years old, she and a group set out on a short walk to a cabin that turned into a six-hour ordeal after they got lost. Eventually, someone found them and led them to safety—an experience for which she was deeply grateful.

Pastor Pratt connected this to the Israelites in the wilderness, guided by a cloud by day and fire by night. “God was their divine GPS,” she said. Addressing the seniors, she acknowledged the uncertainty of their next chapter. “You may not know what lies ahead, but you know who is leading you. Let God be your divine GPS." She encouraged them to step out in faith rather than stay in comfort. “Let God direct each step, just as He did for the Israelites.”

Class pastor Gabriella Roper spoke on behalf of the graduating class, accepting the spiritual challenge presented and encouraging her classmates to allow God to guide their paths, to have God as their "divine GPS." Pastor Joni Hajaj followed with a heartfelt prayer of consecration.
A senior vocal quartet shared a second musical selection, and Mr. Jose Cruz concluded the program with the benediction.

The Consecration service was both inspiring and reflective, drawing hearts closer to Jesus. After the service, students and families gathered to capture the moment with photos, celebrating the spiritual and personal growth of the graduating class.

AA Graduation - Baccalaureate

On Sabbath morning of graduation weekend (May 24, 2025), the Baccalaureate service offered a meaningful time of worship to praise our Creator and give thanks for the many blessings He has given us. The service began with a call to worship by Mr. William Crawford (father of senior Will Crawford), followed by a series of uplifting praise songs led by the AA praise team. Mrs. Megan Delacruz (mother of senior Lily Delacruz) offered a heartfelt prayer, and the Silie Family (parents of senior Marcus Silie) led the call for the offering. The AA Wind Ensemble provided the offertory music, creating a reverent atmosphere. Mr. Timothy Case (father of senior Brady Case) shared the scripture reading, and the AA Brass Ensemble, joined by percussion, performed the special music selection, “God of Our Fathers.” Dr. Logan served as the organist throughout the weekend, adding depth and beauty to each part of the service.

“Christ, Curiosity, and the Class of 2025” was the title of Pastor Jose Bourget’s Baccalaureate sermon, centered on John 7:20. He spoke on the importance of unity in Christ—a shared aspiration for the graduating class—drawing from a student survey on what unity means today. Like the early church, he noted, we still wrestle with division. Pastor Bourget reminded us that unity doesn’t erase differences but calls us to work through them together in Christ. It’s not a destination, but a way of relating—encouraging, building up, and witnessing to others. He offered practical ways to pursue this unity and challenged the Class of 2025 to live it out boldly. We’re grateful to Pastor Bourget—proud parent of senior Sophia Bourget—for his inspiring message and for marking this meaningful moment with the Class of 2025 and their families.

After the sermon, the congregation joined in singing a hymn, followed by a benediction delivered by Mrs. Shawna McNeily (mother of senior Andre Henry). Everyone then united in singing “The Lord Bless You and Keep You,” and the service concluded with the recessional hymn, “Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah.”

It was a beautiful morning to gather on the PMC steps for photos both before and after the service.

Graduation Weekend is a special time for seniors, their families, and friends to come together in worship, deepen their connection with God, and celebrate the achievements of His children. Families from Berrien Springs and around the world joined in the joyful celebrations.

AA Graduation - Sabbath Evening Vespers

The final informal gathering of faculty and seniors took place during Sabbath evening vespers. The evening began with Principal Perez-Schulz sharing a message from Jeremiah 29:11, reminding everyone that God knows what’s best for us and has a plan for our lives. He encouraged each senior to ask Jesus to lead them as they make important life decisions.

Pastor Johnson spoke next, reflecting on the importance of water in sustaining life. He shared the story from the book of John, where Jesus asked the Samaritan woman for water and told her that if she knew who He was, she would ask Him for living water. Pastor Johnson's final appeal to the seniors was heartfelt: to drink of that living water and, for those who haven’t yet made the decision to follow Jesus, to say yes now.

Pastor May then led an interactive activity. She invited the group to reflect on the characteristics of Jesus and how those qualities can also be seen in each of us. Seniors selected cards with descriptive words and gave them to the person next to them, sharing how they saw Christ-like traits in one another. These words were then shared with the group, highlighting how the character of Jesus can shine through each person.

To conclude the evening, participants wrote notes of appreciation or reconciliation on small cards and gave them to others, along with a carnation. It was a meaningful way to offer kind words or resolve any lingering issues before everyone parts ways after graduation.

The evening ended with snacks and fellowship, as students and faculty spent about an hour after the vespers socializing before preparing for Sunday’s graduation ceremony. (May 24, 2025)

AA Graduation - Commencement

Sunday morning of graduation weekend was Commencement (May 25, 2025). After the class marched in, the AA board chair, Mr. Fares Magesa began the program with the invocation, followed by class president, Sara Lemon, who gave the final address to the class. Special music was presented by AA Strings conducted by Dr. Elsy M. Gallardo-Diaz.

The Commencement address was titled, "A Christ-Centered Life,” by Pastor Mario Ferguson (former AA principal). To live a life of fullness in God, consider these three dimensions:

  1. Length – Grow personally in your relationship with God and pursue the purpose He has given you. Philippians 3:142.

  2. Breadth – Embrace the breadth of life by loving and serving others. Galatians 53.

  3. Height – Deepen your relationship with Christ and draw closer to Him each day.

The Silhouettes presented “Goodbye, My Friend.” Ms. Leslie Nieves and Mrs. Marah Silvestre, senior class sponsors, presented the Class of 2025. Principal Ruben Perez-Schulz presented a charge to the class and then led in the conferring of diplomas. Seniors also received the book Steps to Christ from the Michigan Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

After the seniors received their diploma, they transferred their tassel to the other side, and were introduced as the new alumni class of 2025. The new senior class of 2026 was then introduced. After the commencement hymn, “Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah,” a benediction was given by class sponsor, Pastor Gabriel Johnson.

Congratulations graduates on your accomplishments! May each of you keep God first as you venture out in your next phase of life.

Throughout the weekend numerous open houses were held. These are always a fun time to share stories, congratulate and encourage each other. Thank you to the many families who generously shared for these occasions.

It was a fun and spiritually inspiring graduation weekend.

P.S. In a few weeks, graduates will be able to stop by the Academy to pick up your graduation packets. This is when you will receive a professional picture of you receiving your diploma, a class picture, as well as other important documents and mementos.
