Andrews Academy's

Official Newsletter

December 2, 2022

AA will be closed from December 19 - January 2 for Christmas Break.

Classes will resume on Tuesday, January 3.

Safety Drills

Throughout the school year, Andrews Academy has safety drills to practice various emergency scenarios so that students and faculty know what to do if there is an emergency. On Thursday (yesterday), we had a tornado drill so students know what the sound of the alarm is for a tornado drill and know to go to the chapel to seek shelter. At regular intervals throughout the school year, we have fire drills, intruder drills, hazardous spill drills, and tornado drills.

School Musical: Fiddler on the Roof

AA's production of Fiddler on the Roof opens tomorrow, Saturday evening, December 3 (SOLD OUT), with two additional shows on the 4th & 5th. You won't want to miss it! Tickets should be available at the door on Sunday and Monday only.

Make any arrangements you need to make in advance so you may be present.

This is a reminder to bring in your food for the food drive! We are collecting until next Friday, December 9, so stop by the store, and bring in what you can! We want to give as much as possible. Last year we made 150 boxes of food. Our goal this year is to make 200 boxes. Let's make that happen together! Bring your food items to the wall in front of the gym. Let's give back to our community! Thank you.

  • boxed mashed potatoes

  • boxed stuffing

  • canned vegetables

  • bag of rice

  • boxed cake and frosting container

Andrews Academy Christmas Concerts

Join us next Friday night and be inspired by a program of music, Scripture readings and drama honoring the King of Kings. Feast of Lights—now in its 49th year—is the Christmas musical gift from Andrews Academy to the Berrien Springs community and beyond. It is an evening of instrumental music, bells, choral and congregational singing, lights, and a Nativity scene.

Experience with us the joyful retelling of the Christmas story, beginning with the humble incarnation of the long-expected Messiah and culminating with the Lord of Lords receiving "the kingdoms of this world" and our universal expression of praise: "Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth ... and He shall reign for ever and ever (Revelation 19:6, 11:15)."

Christmas Pops

Next Saturday night, December 10, 7:00 PM
Howard Performing Arts Center
Campus of Andrews University

Everyone is welcome to attend both concerts!

Both concerts will be live-streamed on our Facebook page.
Feast of Lights will also be live-streamed on the Andrews University website.

Final exams/assessments start on Wednesday, December 14. Please note when your exams are scheduled for and carefully prepare for them so that you can do well in each of your classes. The first day begins at 9:25 AM to provide you more time to prepare. If your transportation requires you to arrive at the school at 8:00 AM, then please go to the Commons.

Students are required to attend even if you do not have an exam/assessment for that time slot. However, if you have a study hall (or band) during the first exam slot of the day, then you do not need to arrive until devotions. For students with band or a study hall for the first or last exam slot of the day, parents should contact us at AAattendance@andrews.edu or 269-471-3138 to excuse study hall/band. Contact Mrs. Meekma in the front office if you have any questions. Be sure to sign in at the front office if you arrive late or leave early.

Students with a college class exam time that conflicts with AA exams, please contact your teachers to make other arrangements.

If you have a break in between two finals (for example, on Thursday you have a 10:15 AM class final and no 11:10 AM class final [such as a study hall or CSA], then a 2:25 PM class final), then you must go to study hall. You may not leave campus and walk over to Apple Valley or anywhere else.

Please remember that students must stay in the classroom for the entire exam class period. You may not go "get books," "get a drink," etc. when you are done with your exam.

Before the exam begins, please get books you may need to study from, get a drink, use the restroom, etc. so that you can stay in the classroom the entire time. We want the entire school to be quiet during exams so that they can be done as effectively as possible without distractions. Thank you!

AA Uniforms Available from Lands' End

We have renewed our relationship with Lands’ End for uniform needs. More selections for uniforms are now included, such as a button-down shirt, a long-sleeved polo, and a sweater. Click on the option(s) that you would like, then choose the size (kid or adult). Please be mindful that Andrews Academy is not responsible for your orders.

We have added a squall jacket (male and female options) to the uniform store. They are currently on sale. The AA logo must be added ($5.95), and the jacket can be worn in class/school. To add a proper name and/or class year, please call 800-469-2222.

Lands' End

Please review the Sourcebook (pgs 79-81) for more information regarding uniforms. Only approved logoed uniform wear is allowed. A solid-color, long sleeved undershirt may be worn under the AA short-sleeved polo (no writing should be visible on the undershirt). If a student is wearing a fleece, they should also have an AA logoed shirt underneath.

If you need PE uniform items, please come to the main office.

Opting into Texting for One Call Now

Andrews Academy utilizes One Call Now, an automated messaging service, to contact students and parents about school cancellations, upcoming events, and performances, etc.

Please make sure that we have the phone number that you would like to have contacted. We also sent an email, put the announcement on our Facebook and Instagram pages, and alerted local TV stations (WSBT, WNDU, ABC57).

To receive a text notification instead of a call (text works best), please text “ALERT” to 22300. Please make sure that you have given us the number that you would like to be texted on as well. Email ginam@andrews.edu with any changes. Thank you!

  1. The Fitness Center is typically open and available on Mondays from 3:30-4:30 PM. The challenge has been that no one has accepted the opportunity to work out. Please, take the time and opportunity now that it is cold to enjoy what is available to every student at AA by using the Fitness Center on Mondays. The link to sign up so we can prepare ahead of time is below, but it is not necessary.

  2. The Women's Strength Club is still going strong, and I would really like to thank Mrs. Case for providing her expertise and experience in coaching and training the females of AA. This opportunity is still available for those that would like to join on Thursdays from 3:30-4:30 PM in the Fitness Center. Again, you can sign up on the form below, or just show up ready to receive coaching from a certified Personal Trainer.

Chapels this Week

The theme for this week's chapels was "an attitude for gratitude," a fitting slogan for the week following Thanksgiving. We thank all the different speakers and spiritual leaders that made our chapels impactful, including Fiorella (Fio) Oudri, Pastor Lindsey Pratt, Pastor Thorly James, Pastor Denry White, and most especially our special visitors—Grace Dockerty and Caleb Braswell, graduates (alumni) from last year's class—who shared about their experiences after graduation and two meaningful songs. We are also grateful for our praise leaders who prepare hearts for worship through song.

It is our hope that through the messages this week, students and faculty alike will remember what God has done for us and praise Him with joyful hearts.
