Andrews Academy Class of 2023

Presenting the Andrews Academy Class of 2023 (picture taken Tuesday, May 2, 2023). We know graduation is just around the corner when we start to see graduation gowns!

Last Friday, seniors enjoyed their senior retreat at UltraCamp in Niles. There they did some of the last steps of planning for graduation. Most of the time was spent hanging out together as they tried out their skills at rock wall climbing, laser tag, foam pit, and more. After dinner, during worship, they shared their future goals, shared scripture promises of how God is in charge of their future, and some shared how the Academy influenced them in making their choice of future goals.

Seniors, if you haven't joined your class Facebook group yet, you may want to do so. It's a great way to keep in touch with each other after graduation.

Chapels this Week

This week marked the beginning of Asian-American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Month, which spans over the month of May. It is a celebration of the contributions and influence of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States.

AAPI Month began as a week-long celebration in the late 1970s that extended into a month-long celebration in 1990. The month of May was chosen in honor of the first Japanese immigrants who came to the United States, and the completion of the transcontinental railroad, which both occurred during May.

Andrews Academy is celebrating AAPI Month through a series of chapels from May 1-19, with the theme No Longer Invisible. The theme verse is found in Colossians 1:16, which reads "For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through Him and for Him."

On Monday, we heard from Nate Sitaneng, who is Indonesian-American. He spoke about some hardships he had about wanting to belong to a particular culture/group and, ultimately, encouraged students to be themselves. Tuesday and Wednesday's speaker was Joanne Kim, mother of Jordan and Jaira Kim (senior, freshman) and Ms. Joelle Kim (English teacher), who is Korean-American. She shared about her experiences growing up in a first-generation immigrant household and her experiences as a missionary in Mongolia—ending with the message that God loves us, even though we may not deserve it. Thursday's speaker was Nathan Elanko, junior, who spoke about how he struggled when he was younger with feeling invisible and unseen. He related his story to that of David and how David seemed to be crying out to God in his psalms when he felt invisible. Nathan spoke of how God responded not only to David but to us with the words that He sees us.

We'd like to thank each speaker and the planners behind AAPI Month for the opportunity to celebrate the diversity here at AA and the individual stories we have.

Today each class had their own worship.

AA Uniforms Available from Lands' End

We have renewed our relationship with Lands’ End for uniform needs. More selections for uniforms are now included, such as a button-down shirt, a long-sleeved polo, and a sweater. Click on the option(s) that you would like, then choose the size (kid or adult). Please be mindful that Andrews Academy is not responsible for your orders.

We are working on other jacket options.

Please review the Sourcebook (pgs 79-81) for more information regarding uniforms. Only approved logoed uniform wear is allowed. A solid-color, long sleeved undershirt may be worn under the AA short-sleeved polo (no writing should be visible on the undershirt). If a student is wearing an AA logoed jacket, they should also have an AA logoed shirt underneath.

If you need PE uniform items, please see Pastor Ferguson at lunch time or after school (cash only).

Opting into Texting for One Call Now

Andrews Academy utilizes One Call Now, an automated messaging service, to contact students and parents about school cancellations, upcoming events, and performances, etc.

Please make sure that we have the phone number that you would like to have contacted. We also send an email, put the announcement on our Facebook and Instagram pages, and alert local TV stations (WSBT, WNDU, ABC57).

To receive a text notification instead of a call (text works best), please text “ALERT” to 22300. Please make sure that you have given us the number that you would like to be texted on as well. Email ginam@andrews.edu with any changes. Thank you!
