Student-Led Week of Prayer: Theme - “Honoring God Through Service”
One of the highlights of Spring semester is Student Week of Prayer, (April 1-5, 2024). The class, SA, and NHS pastors, under the guidance of Pastor Mario Ferguson and the religion teachers, have prayed, brainstormed, planned, and worked together to create a series of messages centered around the theme, “Honoring God Through Service.”
Karan Chun began Wednesday’s chapel with prayer, followed by Lilly Murphy asking students share with each other some insights of their own personal service experiences with those sitting next to them. Following this, there was a special music, reading of scripture, and then song service. Zola Sibanda, junior class pastor, presented on the topic of service with sacrifice. She read Romans 12:1, Ephesians 5:2, and other Scriptures on this topic. Esther was willing to serve by potentially sacrificing her life for her people, and John the Baptist prepared the way of the Lord, losing his life in the process. She weaved other Biblical examples together as she developed the theme of serving by sacrifice.
On Thursday, senior class pastor Marco Sciarabba Badenas shared the Biblical definition of honor, and that is to glorify. He shared from Matthew 20 that to be great is to be a servant, which contradicts the worldly view of greatness. Humility of heart is what is important. The Creator of the universe should be glorified. We need to humble ourselves and serve—this is a way to honor God through our service.
Today (Friday), the last day of week of prayer, SA pastor Kofi Amponsah presented how God uses service to further His work. He shared stories about the lives of Joseph and others in the Bible to illustrate this point. He encouraged each of us to give ourselves away to serve others and God. Pastor Ferguson concluded the Week with Prayer by calling for us to carry our cross.

Governor Recognizes Andrews Academy’s Adopt-A-Highway Project
A big thank you to Andrews Academy’s students and faculty who have helped clean the on and off ramps (Exit 15) between the 31 bypass and M-139. At Andrews Academy, we aim to foster service in our co-curricular program. This is one of the more visible things students do to help serve our community. As you take the exits to/from Berrien Springs, please look for our “Adopt-A-Highway” sign! This photo was taken in the spring of 2023 during one of our cleanup sessions.
A group of students did this today as part of the Service Day. We will have many photos of Service Day in our next edition of the E-Sanjo.

Important Attendance Information
- Pre-arranged Absences: Please be sure to fill out a pre-arranged absence card if you know in advance that you will be missing school due to a doctor/dentist/orthodontist appointment, trip, basketball tournament, driver's test, etc. These cards can be found in the main office or online. A parent's signature is required, then the office, and teacher(s) of the class(es) that you will miss.
-
Class Schedule Adjustment (CSA) Requests: A CSA is available for students who have a study hall at the beginning or ending of the school day or will be working during a study hall during the school day. A CSA is required for students who leave the Academy to attend classes at Andrews University, who are going to work off campus, or who wish to begin the school day later or leave earlier on a regular basis. The CSA request form must be filled out and signed by everyone indicated on the form before the student stops attending their study hall. Students must adhere to CSA guidelines that are printed on the CSA application. Any violation may cause the CSA to be revoked. I will email students and parents when a CSA is approved.
- Other Absences: Parents, please call the front office (269-471-3138) or email aaattendance@andrews.edu if your student is going to be absent or tardy. These are the preferable methods.
Please provide the reason why your child will not be attending school and how long you think they will be out.
Parents/Guardians are the only authorized individuals who can excuse a student's attendance. When emailing, parents must send correspondence from their email account to maintain the validity of the request. Please include the name of the student.
From the Sourcebook (pg. 83):
Students who miss three (3) consecutive school days due to illness must provide written documentation from a certified medical professional corroborating the necessity of that absence.
For any attendance questions that you would like to ask by email, please direct these questions to aaattendance@andrews.edu.
Thank you!
