Andrews Academy's

Official Newsletter

November 30, 2021

Dear AA Families:

I hope you have had a wonderful Thanksgiving break.

As we continue to navigate through these unprecedented times, we have learned that we must be flexible and adaptable. Andrews Academy made the decision to transition to remote learning to protect our students, faculty, and staff. While we have no evidence of transmission taking place in our building, we continue to see an uptick in our community at large. Since our remote learning transition on November 24, 2021, we have had reports of five new positive COVID-19 cases.

I want to remind you that all of us share the responsibility of keeping our community safe. We can help mitigate COVID-19 risks in the following ways, as  recommended by the Berrien County Health Department:

Prevention Strategies

Students are required to use the #CampusClear app to monitor and report any symptoms that could potentially be COVID-19. #CampusClear reports must be submitted before 3:00 PM daily. If a student has been exposed to, or tests positive for, COVID-19, they should report this information by email to covid19@andrews.edu and aaprincipal@andrews.edu.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation as we work in partnership to provide the safest learning environment for our Andrews Academy family. Let’s be intentional about following the recommendations of the Berrien County Health Department and the protocol of Andrews University and other appropriate agencies. When anyone is in isolation or quarantining, please follow the guidelines provided in the quarantine document.

Blessings,

Pastor Mario Ferguson

Seniors Got Talent has been postponed. As soon as there is a new date confirmed, we will communicate that information. Individuals who purchased tickets may request a refund, or wait until there is a new date and then decide if they will be able to attend or would like to be refunded. Contact one of the senior sponsors (Pellegrini and VanDenburgh) as needed.

Home Skills Class

Andrews Academy offers Home Skills, a very practical class to learn the basics of taking care of a home. Some portions of the curriculum includes basic home repair; others involve some basic cooking classes; and on the day these pictures were taken, students were learning some basic sewing skills, including hemming some clothing.

Mrs. Younker is teaching students how to do the hemming. You will notice that students have Chromebooks that provide a tutorial on how to do each step, so students can progress at their own pace. The teacher is then able to go around to members of the class and coach them through the hemming process.

Home Skills is a very practical class teaching skills that students will utilize throughout their lives

Free Counseling Offered at Andrews University

The Andrews Community Counseling Center (ACCC) will have openings for many new clients when they reopen in January 2022 (although individuals interested in services are encouraged to call now and leave a confidential voicemail message to get their name toward the top of the waiting list). Graduate-level practicum students who provide these free counseling services at the ACCC have training in counseling adults, adolescents, and children. Counseling sessions are completely confidential.

During the pandemic, the ACCC knows that the need for mental health services is great, and they also recognize that the need for physical safety is essential. Therefore, all counseling in-person sessions will require counselors and clients to wear a face mask covering the nose and mouth at all times, regardless of vaccination status. For those unable to attend in-person, some teletherapy services may also be available using confidential Zoom sessions.
