Official Newsletter

December 16, 2022

Dear AA Families,

We have come to the end of Fall Semester 2022. We give God praise for His guiding care and protection. Thank you for partnering with us; we had a successful semester because of your support. As we prepare for Spring Semester 2023, there are a few important items you need to make a note of:

Important Dates:

  • AA resumes for Spring Semester on Tuesday, January 3, 2023

  • Bible Camp Orientation - Thursday, January 12, at 7:30 AM

  • Winter Bible Camp at Au Sable - January 19-22. Approximately 80 students plus select faculty will attend this event as we commune with God in nature.

  • MAP Testing (Grades 9 & 10) and Asynchronous Learning (Grades 11 & 12) - Wednesday, January 25

Commendations and Appreciation:

We are proud of our AA students and their accomplishments throughout the semester. We had a production of Fiddler on the Roof, a great musical presentation by our English department. We also enjoyed the Feast of Lights program and Christmas Pops concert. We thank God for the many gifts and talents our students continue to use to bring honor and glory to His name. We also deeply appreciate our AA faculty and staff for their hard work and dedication.

Final Exams:

We continue to operate in unprecedented times. Over the last few weeks, we have seen an increase in illnesses. Please inform the main office and the respective teacher if your child was out for medical reasons and could not complete final exams/assessments or projects. Teachers will notify students and parents about the expectations regarding the completion of class assignments.

Snack Cart:

The snack cart in the main office will no longer be available starting Tuesday, January 3, 2023. We are looking at an alternative method for providing snacks and bottled water.

The Reason for the Season:

Throughout December, we explored the theme “The Reason for the season.”

As Christians, we know the Reason for the Season is Jesus. He came to us as a baby, grew up, and fulfilled His purpose by giving His life so we can have life and have it in abundance.

As you celebrate the season, consider those who are less fortunate. Even our Andrews Academy family has students who need financial assistance to attend. We encourage those who can partner with us to aid those in need. Don't hesitate to contact Ms. Gracie (gaytan@andrews.edu) or Mrs. Meekma (ginam@andrews.edu) if you are willing and able to assist with the worthy student fund. “And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” (Hebrews 13:16). God commands us to love others. One of the simplest ways to love is by helping when we see someone in need. This can be done with our time, money, or energy. Thanks in advance for your commitment to Adventist Christian education.

Happy Holidays to all!

Blessings,

Pastor Mario Ferguson

Feast of Lights

Andrews Academy’s forty-ninth annual Feast of Lights, our gift to our community, was held on December 9, 2022. It was a magnificent night of music, scriptures, and drama honoring the King of Kings, a retelling of the glorious Christmas story. It spoke to our hearts of His wondrous love.

A big thank you to all the students who worked diligently in making this such a beautiful program. And a big thank you to the music directors, Dr. Elsy M. Gallardo-Diaz & Marcelo Martins. We would also like to thank former AA Music teacher, Dr. Byron Graves, for stepping in for Dr. Gallardo-Diaz as she was not able to direct this past weekend.

May God grant you His richest blessings during this season of celebration of His Son’s birth.

AA Uniforms Available from Lands' End

We have renewed our relationship with Lands’ End for uniform needs. More selections for uniforms are now included, such as a button-down shirt, a long-sleeved polo, and a sweater. Click on the option(s) that you would like, then choose the size (kid or adult). Please be mindful that Andrews Academy is not responsible for your orders.

We have added a squall jacket (male and female options) to the uniform store. They are currently on sale. The AA logo must be added ($5.95), and the jacket can be worn in class/school. To add a proper name and/or class year, please call 800-469-2222.

Lands' End

Please review the Sourcebook (pgs 79-81) for more information regarding uniforms. Only approved logoed uniform wear is allowed. A solid-color, long sleeved undershirt may be worn under the AA short-sleeved polo (no writing should be visible on the undershirt). If a student is wearing a fleece, they should also have an AA logoed shirt underneath.

If you need PE uniform items, please come to the main office.

Opting into Texting for One Call Now

Andrews Academy utilizes One Call Now, an automated messaging service, to contact students and parents about school cancellations, upcoming events, and performances, etc.

Please make sure that we have the phone number that you would like to have contacted. We also sent an email, put the announcement on our Facebook and Instagram pages, and alerted local TV stations (WSBT, WNDU, ABC57).

To receive a text notification instead of a call (text works best), please text “ALERT” to 22300. Please make sure that you have given us the number that you would like to be texted on as well. Email ginam@andrews.edu with any changes. Thank you!

FACTS or Andrews Username Log In Help

If you need help logging in to FACTS or help with your Andrews user name/email and password, please contact Mrs. Meekma (ginam@andrews.edu) in the front office.

You can find your schedule, grades, etc. on FACTS. New students, if your username hasn't been set up yet, come to the front office for help.

Chapels this Week

Anticipation was at its peak during this week's chapels as the semester drew to a close. Wednesday's speaker, Pastor Lee Whitman, student Madison's dad, spoke about the "greatest gift" of Jesus that we should remember not only during this Christmas season, but throughout the rest of the year as well.

On Thursday, Spiritual Life leaders led out in a game of "charades", providing groups of students with Bible stories to reenact, each reminding us to depend on God.

And today (Friday), we had lots of cheerful praise and invited Darius Bridges from AU to speak about treating our neighbors with agape love. We'd like to thank all participants for their contributions to creating a flourishing spiritual atmosphere here at Andrews Academy.
