Recreation Night - Volleyball Tournament

Periodically at AA, there are recreation nights that focus on a particular sport. This past Tuesday, eight teams were formed and enjoyed a fun evening of volleyball together.  Like last year, this year there was a faculty team! Besides the players, many classmates were there to cheer on their friends.

This was a double elimination tournament with a senior team playing against the sophomore team for the final game. The senior team won with Seth Shelley, David Tillman, Caleb Izumi, and Zac Hildebrant playing.

Opting into Texting for One Call Now

Andrews Academy utilizes One Call Now, an automated messaging service, to contact students and parents about school cancellations, upcoming events, and performances, etc.

Did you receive our Snow Day automated call/text message on Wednesday? If not, please make sure that we have the phone number that you would like to have contacted. We also sent an email, put the announcement on our Facebook and Instagram pages, and alerted local TV stations (WSBT, WNDU, ABC57).

To receive a text notification instead of a call (text works best), please text “ALERT” to 22300. Please make sure that you have given us the number that you would like to be texted on as well. Email ginam@andrews.edu with any changes. Thank you!

AA Uniforms Available from Lands' End

We have renewed our relationship with Lands’ End for uniform needs. More selections for uniforms are now included, such as a button-down shirt, a long-sleeved polo, and a sweater. Click on the option(s) that you would like, then choose the size (kid or adult). Please be mindful that Andrews Academy is not responsible for your orders.

Please review the Sourcebook (pgs 79-81) for more information regarding uniforms. Only approved logoed uniform wear is allowed. A solid-color, long sleeved undershirt may be worn under the AA short-sleeved polo (no writing should be visible on the undershirt). If a student is wearing a fleece, they should also have an AA logoed shirt underneath.

If you need PE uniform items, please come to the main office.

  1. The Fitness Center is typically open and available on Mondays from 3:30-4:30 PM. The challenge has been that no one has accepted the opportunity to work out. Please, take the time and opportunity now that it is cold to enjoy what is available to every student at AA by using the Fitness Center on Mondays. The link to sign up so we can prepare ahead of time is below, but it is not necessary.

  2. The Women's Strength Club is still going strong, and I would really like to thank Mrs. Case for providing her expertise and experience in coaching and training the females of AA. This opportunity is still available for those that would like to join on Thursdays from 3:30-4:30 PM in the Fitness Center. Again, you can sign up on the form below, or just show up ready to receive coaching from a certified Personal Trainer.

Local Rotary Club Honors Anna Rybachek & John Bitterman

Rotary is a worldwide organization of more than 1.2 million people. Rotarians provide humanitarian service and help build goodwill and peace in the world. The Berrien Springs - Eau Claire Rotary Club serves the local community in a number of ways, one of which is recognizing students for their outstanding service and achievements. Anna Rybachek & John Bitterman were recently recognized during its annual Youth Appreciation Breakfast (November  2022).

The Journal Era newspaper with this article is now in local newsstands and will be available until Tuesday. It is found in the November 16, 2022, issue on page 2.

Chapels this Week

This week, our chapels focused on God's integrity, shown through brief sermons from a variety of speakers. As always, we began each of our chapel sessions with praise. On Friday, we had special guests from AU—a group of students from AA's previoius graduating class—join us in lifting praise to God.

Monday's speaker was senior Madison Whitman, who spoke about the "honesty" aspect of God's integrity. She emphasized how God is honest with us, perhaps in ways that we wouldn't expect. She used the experience of training her new puppy and how God showed her the answer to her worries about training him.

On Tuesday, Pastor Lindsey Pratt invited eight students up to the stage and gave them a taste of "miracle berries"—a strange berry that holds the power of making everything they ate afterwards taste sweet. "Taste and see that the Lord is good." Pastor Lindsey reminded students that it doesn't make a strong difference until we experience His promises for ourselves.

Adrian Jones, a student at Andrews University, spoke for chapel on Thursday, recounting his experience about his first speeding ticket and how the consequences were "covered" by his father. He connected this with how our Heavenly Father takes up our mistakes and keeps His promises in integrity, and sent Christ to die for us, to pay for our sins.

On Friday, we were excited to have some AA alumni lead in praise and also speak for us. Hunter Penn, who graduated two years ago from AA, lead students out in a Kahoot game which reviewed all the things we learned about God's integrity during the week. Seniors won by a small margin, followed closely by the sophomores, freshmen, and juniors.

Thank you to all the praise leaders and speakers for making this week truly focused on how we can better understand God's integrity!
