Dear AA Families,

Thanks to Mother Nature, we had a shortened school week. The Lord knows what we need and when we need it. As we continue to navigate through these trying times, God reminds us that He cares for us. He provides rest and opportunities for us to work. God Himself demonstrated a balanced life by working and then resting. At sunset this evening, we will celebrate the Sabbath. Many often think about the Sabbath as just a day to rest from physical labor; however the Sabbath is so much more than a day of rest. In Exodus 20:8-11, God reminds us about the importance of the Sabbath. It is a symbol of freedom and equity. No work for servants, master, family members, or animals.

February is Black History month. This year we reflect on the theme “Where Do We Go From Here?” This theme is relevant because it gives us the opportunity to reflect on the past and appreciate the present. Many people of varied backgrounds and ethnicity paved the way for the present. They made sacrifices, marched, and even died so we that can celebrate present values. Let us use our gifts and talents to preserve what they started, and continue paving paths for the next generation as we build bridges and tear down walls of separation and injustice.

Thank you all for your continued support:

We have scheduled a parent meeting for Tuesday, March 1, at 6:30 PM via Zoom.

Please be reminded that daily class attendance is vital to your child's success.  Chronic student absence reduces the teacher’s ability to provide learning opportunities. Students who attend school regularly have been shown to achieve at higher levels than students who do not have regular attendance. Please consider how missing school/classes may impact your child’s learning.

Tuesday, March 8 is our annual Academy Day. This will be an asynchronous learning day. Select students and organizational officers will attend school to assist. We will need to limit the amount of occupants in the building that day to maintain our COVID-19 protocols. Please contact the office for more details regarding the day.

We are seeking quality substitute teachers for the rest of the spring semester and next school year. If you are interested in serving in this capacity, please contact the office for guidance about the application process.

Acts 20:35: In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus Himself said: "It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

Let us give love to all who we meet. By giving love, we are in the perfect posture to receive love.

Blessings,

Pastor Mario Ferguson

Ice Skating & Class Vespers Next Friday

Plan now to attend ice skating and class vespers next Friday, February 11! The four classes will skate together, then each class will go to their own location for a vespers together. Some classes will also have supper together.

Class vespers and activities provide a meaningful time to be drawn closer to God, to develop friendships outside the classroom setting, and an opportunity for class officers to develop leadership skills as they plan and lead in the activity and worship experience.

As you load the bus at 2:45 PM in the parking lot of AA, please bring the following:

► Your permission slip (you will not be able to get on the bus without it)
► $10 for ice skating
► Cold weather gear (the rink is outside)

Each class member will be provided their own permission slip. The $10 is to cover the cost of using the ice, skate rental, and to help defray some of the cost for transportation. We will leave the rink at 5:30 PM and travel to your respective class supper and vespers location. Ending time of vespers for each class will be indicated on their permission slip.

Please plan now for this vespers and activity, and check with your class sponsors/officers for your permission slip.

Senior vs. School Badminton Tournament

The AA PE department is sponsoring a Senior vs. School Badminton tournament on Tuesday, March 15, starting at 5:00 PM (note date change).

There will be practices after school next week on 2/8 and 2/10 (Tuesday and Thursday) in the gym from 3:30-4:30 PM.

Come to practices and work with your partner, and if you do not have a partner yet, still come; you may find your badminton partner at the open practices.

Equipment will be provided to each of the players for both the practices and the tournament.

If you are not planning on playing for the tournament, please come and support your class through your cheers.

Seniors Got Talent has been rescheduled for Sunday, February 27! Ready for some fun and food?! Join us for Seniors Got Talent at Andrews Academy. Parent and Student Surveys

As part of our upcoming accreditation process, survey links were emailed to all AA parents and students. If you haven't already done so, please take a few minutes to respond to these surveys as soon as possible. Thanks!

Opting in to Texting for One Call Now

Andrews Academy utilizes One Call Now, an automated messaging service, to contact students and parents about school cancellations, upcoming events, and performances, etc.

To receive a text notification instead of a call, please text “ALERT” to 22300. Please make sure that you have given us the number that you would like to be texted on as well. Email  ginam@andrews.edu  with any changes. Thank you!

Did you receive our calls this week about being closed due to the weather? Please sign up to receive a text instead of a call, if possible. Texting seems to work best.

Thank you so much for supporting the freshman class fundraiser! While they are no longer accepting basket orders, they are still accepting donations (checks payable to Andrews Academy, memo line "Freshman Fundraiser").

Snowy Days

The events of the last half of this week can be summed up by this one picture.

Chapel This Week

After two snow days, things were a bit jumbled for chapel today. In spite of this, however, we came together and sang the hymn There’s Power in The Blood. After this, Pastor/principal Ferguson stood in and gave a short devotion.

Pastor Ferguson reflected on his trip to Bible Camp. At Bible Camp, Claire Yang lost her phone on the way to the chapel in the snow. Everyone was helping to look for it when someone suggested calling her dad. Claire’s dad was able to ping the phone, sending an alert to the device, and another group of students were able to find it. Pastor Ferguson compared this to “calling” on our Heavenly Father. Sometimes we may be unconsciously lost, like Claire’s phone, and need God’s help to find our way back. Pastor Ferguson reminded us that God will always be there for us with arms wide open.
