Partnership with Andrews University - Earth Science Class Field Trip
Andrews Academy is blessed to be part of the Andrews University campus. It provides opportunities that many other high school students cannot experience. Today the Earth science class went to the museum at the biology department. They were able to examine Michigan’s most complete skeleton of a woolly mammoth, as well as other specimens in the museum. This mammoth was discovered in an irrigation pond that was being excavated near Eau Claire a number of decades ago.
While students were there, they analyzed the size of the teeth and the size of the pelvis and growth plates on the bones to hypothesize the age and sex of the mammoth. They also speculated on how it died and was then buried in the swamp to be preserved for centuries. Currently Earth science students are studying fossils. They then spent some time looking at other items in the museum.

Attendance Reminders
- Class Schedule Adjustment (CSA) Requests: A CSA is available for students who have a study hall at the beginning or ending of the school day or will be working during a study hall during the school day.
|
|
|
The CSA is required for students who leave the Academy to attend classes at Andrews University, who are going to work off campus during the school day, or who wish to begin the school day later or leave earlier on a regular basis. The CSA request form must be filled out and signed by everyone indicated on the form before the student stops attending their study hall. Students must adhere to CSA guidelines that are printed on the CSA application. Any violation may cause the CSA to be revoked. I will email students and parents when a CSA is approved. If you have a college class this week, please email me at aaattendance@andrews.edu so that you can be excused from Study Hall as needed. Then when we are back in the building, please get the CSA request form filled out and turned in ASAP.
Please provide the reason why your child will not be attending school and how long you think they will be out.
Parents/Guardians are the only authorized individuals who can excuse a student's attendance. When emailing, parents must send correspondence from their email account to maintain the validity of the request.
For any attendance questions that you would like to ask by email, please direct these questions to aaattendance@andrews.edu.
Thank you!

Chapel This Week
Today's speaker was Mr. Alex Prouty, father to Eva and Joey. Mr. Prouty told us a story from when he was five years old. He remembers calling himself "righteous" because he hadn't broken any of the ten commandments yet. One night, Mr. Prouty's parents invited some friends over for dinner. After dinner, his mother asked him to fetch the dessert plates. Mr. Prouty excitedly went to get the plates but accidentally broke some dishes. Mr. Prouty's father sent him to his room as a punishment. Young Mr. Prouty didn't understand this punishment and threw a temper tantrum that eventually resulted in him punching his father and getting even a greater discipline. However, the only thing Mr. Prouty was worried about was that he had broken the fifth commandment. He thought his life was over.
We often rationalize our actions when we are happy in "self-righteousness."
|
|
|
But Mr. Prouty reminded us that, even though we may fail, God throws our sins into the deepest part of the ocean, never to be thought of again. And he reminded us that it is not our works the free us, instead it’s a free gift when we accept Jesus.
Romans 8:1: “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Like his father that had forgotten what Mr. Prouty did in childhood, our Heavenly Father forgets our sins.

Free Counseling Offered at Andrews University
The Andrews Community Counseling Center (ACCC) will have openings for many new clients when they reopen in January 2022 (although individuals interested in services are encouraged to call now and leave a confidential voicemail message to get their name toward the top of the waiting list). Graduate-level practicum students who provide these free counseling services at the ACCC have training in counseling adults, adolescents, and children. Counseling sessions are completely confidential.
During the pandemic, the ACCC knows that the need for mental health services is great, and they also recognize that the need for physical safety is essential. Therefore, all counseling in-person sessions will require counselors and clients to wear a face mask covering the nose and mouth at all times, regardless of vaccination status. For those unable to attend in-person, some teletherapy services may also be available using confidential Zoom sessions.
