Dear AA Families,
I hope all is well with you and yours. While school is out for the summer, administrators and staff members are busy getting our building ready and planning for the 2023-24 school year. On behalf of the AA faculty, staff, and administration, we thank you for your dedication and commitment to Seventh-day Adventist Christian education.
We ended the year with 247 students, and we give God thanks for all of His blessing throughout the school year. We continue to seek ways to improve the Andrews Academy experience. Thank you for sharing your concerns and for your continued support. The prayers for our school are greatly appreciated! The 2022-23 school year ended with Communion Service and Mizpah, and students and staff were blessed by the experience. Some students have requested Bible studies in preparation for baptism. If any students or community members would like to be a part of the baptisms this summer, please get in touch with me, Pastor Mario Ferguson, at mferguson@andrews.edu.
As we move into the next school year, we enter with great expectations. We know God has great plans for the Academy. Our 2023-24 school year theme is Eternity Starts Here. Ecclesiastes 3:11 says, “Everything is appropriate in its own time. But though God has planted eternity in the hearts of men, even so, many cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end" (TLB). We will trust God, remembering throughout the upcoming days that His plan is for us to spend eternity with Him.
Welcome & Farewell
We welcome our new full-time religion teacher, Pastor Nancy Kardos-Moldovan ("Mrs. May"). We also welcome our new Vice Principal, Mrs. Girlie Zunega-Aguilar. Please see below for their profiles.
Mr. Jeremy Steinkraus, one of our religion teachers, is transitioning to our sister school, Ruth Murdoch Elementary School. He will teach junior high Bible and math. We thank Mr. Steinkraus for the three years he served at Andrews Academy. May God’s peace be with him in his new assignment. The personnel committee solicits your prayers as we seek to fill the position of full-time religion teacher.
AA Safety & Account Authentication
Starting Fall 2023, students at Andrews Academy will be required to use a USB Security Key (MFA) for account authentication instead of using their phones when accessing Andrews managed emails and computers. ITS recommends using the Titan Security or YubiKey USB Key brands. The USB A type is recommended for using current Academy-managed Chromebooks and Laptops. More detailed information will be provided later in the summer.
Bookstore & Uniforms
Please see below for information regarding book buybacks. The book buyback has started. On July 6, the portal for book purchases opens. Watch for more information. Lands' End will continue to supply our uniforms. We do have some uniforms for sale at AA (sold during summer office hours). Please review our Sourcebook for uniform expectations/dress code.
I pray for God’s care and protection over all students, parents, faculty, staff, and community members.

Introducing Mrs. Girlie Zunega-Aguilar, Vice Principal
|
My name is Girlie Zunega-Aguilar (Ms. G), and I am excited to be your Vice Principal at Andrews Academy. I am a Principal in one of the schools in the Oregon Conference, finishing my fifth year. I also served seven and a half years at Saipan Adventist School, Northern Mariana Islands, as a teacher and missionary for three years in South Korea. I have a Master's degree in Education, majoring in Educational Leadership, Cognate: Curriculum and Instruction. I am in a Doctoral program (PhD), finishing my dissertation at Andrews University for Religious Education: Campus Spiritual Leadership.
My husband (Pastor Antonee, a district pastor in the Oregon Conference) and I worked at AA for three years, and we are excited to come home and rejoin our AA family! As a couple, we enjoy activities with our four-legged daughter, Bella, from riding bicycles to hiking, traveling, and date nights with friends. I enjoy writing, talking with God in my journal, reading, equipping young adults, giving lectures/seminars, evangelism, and other church-related ministries.
I am excited to unite my 18-plus years of experience in the educational field with openness to learning and applying a Christ-centered approach to support our students at AA. The relationships between teachers, administrators, and families are also vital to the success of our students and school.
While I hope to share more about myself, I also want to get to know you! So I encourage you to come and visit me in my office and hear your hopes and dreams for the future at AA, and I would also love to listen to your stories and your journey with God. Yes, I am beyond excited to meet all of you!
One of my favorite promises in the Bible is in Jeremiah 29:11: "For I know the plans that I have for you, says the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you but to give you hope and a future."
You can reach me by email at girlie@andrews.edu.
I can't wait to get to know you!

Introducing Mrs. Nancy Kardos-Moldovan, Religion Teacher
|
Hello! My name is Nancy Kardos-Moldovan (married: Meszaros), and I am thrilled to be teaching here at Andrews Academy as one of the religion teachers. While some of my students have challenged themselves to call me by my married last name, many students simply call me Mrs. May.
My husband and I moved from Colorado where we both taught at Campion Academy; now, we are both enrolled in the MDiv program at the Seminary. This will be my fifth year of teaching, and my BA is in Religion and Secondary Education, with minors in Biblical Languages, Leadership, and Biology. It is a blessing to be back at AA, where I previously did my student teaching for my bachelor’s degree and was a contract religion teacher last year. The classes that I will be teaching this year are Encountering Jesus for Grades 9 and 11, as well as Romans (Fall), and My 3D Bible (Spring). It is my prayer that the students grasp a clearer and more beautiful picture of God’s character of love through these classes. Teaching religion is a passion of mine, and I long to share this with the students as they grow their own personal relationships with the LORD.
Some hobbies that I enjoy are modern hymn writing with my husband, being out in nature, spending time at the lake, and of course, spending time with my family. I also enjoy creating escape rooms for religion classes, and seeing students become empowered to share their faith with others. I have a Bible verse that has been an anchor during these years of teaching, and it is found in Psalm 32:8: “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you” (ESV). May this year bring a heartfelt appreciation for God, the Father, a fonder recognition for the love of the Son, and a humble respect for the working of the Holy Spirit in our lives, as we live His light in all we do!
